Know your enemy: the pine wave

The yellow film is overwhelmingly pine pollen — loblollies and longleafs releasing it in visible drifts, typically from mid-March into late April around Summerville, with oaks running their own quieter season alongside. It coats everything: siding, screens, porches, cars, the dog. Pollen myths worth clearing up

"Pollen stains siding permanently." Rarely — it's the mildew underneath that stains. If yellow won't rinse off, what you're seeing usually isn't pollen anymore. "Pressure-wash it off the screens."
